Exp #15.1 Flower Anatomy and Dissection

Choose 4 or 5 different flowers and dissect them. Just like our other dissections, you are going to do external anatomy drawings and label it. Then you’re going to cut it open and draw and label the interior.

A good mix of flowers would be 1 lily, 1 rose, 1 tulip, 1 carnation. Last time, I found some marked down at Kroger to like $3 for a bundle of 6 or more different flowers. They were scruffy looking but fine. Wild flowers is fine, if you can find them.

Snap some photos while you go and have your moms post them on the GJ page.
Exp 15.2 Fruit Classification and dissection

Find several types of fruit (look at lab, it has a list) around your house, classify them, and dissect them. Draw and label what you see. Classify according to the list on the lab.

Post pictures on the GJ page.

Module 14: Kingdom Plantae

Module 14: Kingdom Plantae

Checklist of work to be done by the beginning of class: 4/13/2020 Leaf Collection is due 5/4/2020

You can print this off and use it as a checklist.

If things go back to normal anytime soon, we will complete in person dissections during in person classes. After discussing it with Carlotta and Sandy, I am just not comfortable sending specimens home with scalpels and hoping for the best. A simple cut that sends you to the ER for stitches, can be so much more serious because of the possibility of exposure while getting stitches. Some of our members are practicing complete isolation because of family members with immune issues or age issues. That rules out getting together for a couple of classes to complete these labs.

The videos I have chosen are VERY detailed and are more thoroughly taught than I usually manage because I’m constantly sleep deprived and missing terminology. These guys are both Professors but they’re teaching a high school level.

If we do get the opportunity to get together later in the summer and have a Dissection Party, the videos should prepare you very well.
